I own way too many lipsticks and may have a slight obsession... however, this does mean I have a nice little collection to share with you all and today I'm going to show you my top summer lipsticks and give you a few tips along the way.
So many of us shy away from wearing lipstick... don't! Lipsticks add a touch of glamour to any look and can instantly boost your confidence! A little lipstick can also make your lips look fuller and softer. However, finding the right colour for you can be a little daunting, as there are literally hundreds to choose from! Ever bought a lip colour, then got home, put it on and disliked it? I have! Well, my tip for testing lip colours is not to test on the back of your hand, but on the tip of your finger... why? Well our lips have blue/red tone and most people have a neutral skin tone on the back of their hands. When testing on the back of your hand it will look intensely bright however your fingertip is a closer texture and colour to your lips! I find this way works better for me, how do you test your lipsticks?
However for the purpose of this post I have tested the colours on my arm to show you the true colour however they may appear different on your lips.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, these lip colours! I have been wearing them all summer and seem to always have at least three of them in the bottom of my handbag! I would highly recommend all of these colours...
Maybelline Pink Punch: This lipstick is a bargain in my eyes! It is deep fuchsia pink. It is nourishing and very rich in colour. It is a very good dupe for MAC Girl about Town which is a very popular lipstick from MAC. The lipstick formula includes honey nectar which is why it is so nourishing and creamy. Also this lipstick lasts for ever on my lips! It is a great summer bright.
MAC Love Lorn: This is currently my go to lip colour and I used it in my last blog post. It was one of the first MAC lipsticks I purchased and this is my second one! It is very much a my lip colour but better colour...if that makes sense! It is a soft subtle pink and in my eyes a very safe lip colour. Pink works on any skin tone, its just about finding the right shade for you.
Volupte Sheer Candy Lipstick 8: This is a little on the pricey side but I love it! It is really a rather an expensive lip balm but the packaging is b-e-a-u-tiful! And secondly it smells sweet and fruity! The colour is very sheer and shimmery however it is buildable and is great for every day wear. I love the whole sheer candy range but this sheer lilac is so pretty.
MAC Shy Girl: This peach nude from MAC and is a much loved lipstick of mine. This is a cremesheen and I find although they aren't drying, I do find if my lips are dry the pigment will gather in these areas. However, I love it and the slight peachiness stops the colour from washing me out. This is currently in my handbag along with MAC Love Lorn. This colour will most defiantly look slightly different on everyone, but I highly recommend this lipstick! Remember never choose a lip colour paler than your skin tone - it should always be one to two shades darker.
Revlon Lip Butter Juicy Papaya: This is a fabulous semi-sheer coral colour and a lot more subtle if you are a little worried about trying out coral colours like MAC Costa Chic. It looks rather bright and scary in the packaging, but is just a tinting lip butter and is great for every day wear.
MAC Chatterbox: This lipstick from MAC is an amplified and is a true pink. I find this colour looks great with a tan - perfect for the summer! The formula is creamy and not to shiny and if needs be you can always wear gloss over the top! This colour isn't a Barbie pink and doesn't look trashy like some true pinks can. It also gives a lovely finish and leaves my teeth looking super bright and lasts forever on my lips.
MAC Costa Chic: I love orange/coral lip colours this summer! This colour is bright and vibrant and instantly brightens up my face. This is another shade which looks amazing with a tan! In my opinion this is a perfect summer colour! I was a little spectacle of buying this colour as it is a frost finish however I have been pleasantly surprised!

NO DRY LIPS ALLOWED:
I sometimes find that I get dry lips and when I apply my lipstick it isn't smooth and the colour pigment sticks to all the dead skin (sorry that sounds horrid!). So I often exfoliate my lips. I do this by soaking my lips in moisturiser first (I use Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream) to soften the dead skin then I grab my tooth brush which I have cleaned under a hot tap and I gently scrub away the skin. Do your lips get dry? How do you exfoliate them?
TIPS FOR LIPS:
- Apply lip balm when you first start to apply your make up, so that when it comes to applying your lip colour it will soften them leaving them moist and luscious - a great lipstick base.
- Carry wet wipes if you are heading out, because if your lipstick starts to look a bit old or dry you can just remove it and apply it again rather than applying over the top - fresh lips are best.
- Once you start to use your lipstick you will find it will loose its sharpness and become more difficult to apply, so instead opt for a lip brush - easier more accurate application.
- In the winter you may find your lips are lot dryer so use more lip gloss this will also help it last longer. Then in the summer opt for stains or sticks.
- Always try and use a lip liner which matches the lip colour.
- Do not apply foundation on your lips or under lipstick. One, it just isn't a good look and two you can end up with a horrid cakey line around your lips as your lipstick could be greasy and you foundation could be water based and these don't mix.
I would love to know what your favourite lip colour is this summer. Let me know in the comments box below! There is always room for more in my collection.
